Este cogumelo é pequeno, de coloração marrom e seu chapéu é coberto por uma camada viscosa que assemelha ao quiabo, mas desaparece parcialmente no preparo. Seu sabor é delicioso, com um gosto levemente parecido com nozes e lembrando também ao da alcachofra. Perfeito em sopas, o nameko fica excelente no yakissoba ou refogado com frango xadrez.
